The Association of Biochemistry Educators’ new Media (Book) Club will launch our first series of meetings to discuss the book What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Fat by Aubrey Gordon.
The ABE Media Club will meet starting in July with the JEDI Committee facilitating the discussion via Zoom. Meeting dates and times are included below; zoom links to follow:

Janet E. Lindsley, PhD, current research and scholarship involves curriculum design and implementation, as well as assessment of student learning. She works with a national team of educators on the development of a metabolic map for use in both learning and for incorporation on future medical licensing exams. She has also recently been working on developing a set of national nutritional learning objectives and tools for medical students. Dr. Lindsley's prior research involved understanding the detailed mechanisms of enzymes that alter DNA structure.
Dr. Lance E. LeClere, CAPT MC USNR is the Medical Director and Head Team Physician for the Nashville Predators Hockey Club in the NHL, and Professor Orthopaedic Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. LeClere received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and attended medical school at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, followed by a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Combined Program. During his training and early career, Dr. LeClere served 15 years on Active Duty in the United States Navy. During this time he was a staff surgeon, Director of Orthopaedic Research, and Assistant Program Director for the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego. From 2012 to 2015 he also served as the Orthopaedic Consultant to the US Navy West Coast SEAL Teams and BUDs. From 2015 to 2021 he was stationed at the US Naval Academy and was the Head Team Physician for Naval Academy Varsity Athletics, as well as an Orthpaedic Consultant for the White House Medical Unit and Office of the Attending Physician at the US Capitol. In September of 2021 he began civilian practice at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. LeClere is on the editorial board for the American Journal of Sports Medicine as well as the Arthroscopy Journal. He is a member of the AOSSM Team Physician and Athlete Advocacy Committee and is a past president of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Aviad “Adi” Haramati, PhD, is Professor of Integrative Physiology and co-director of the Graduate Program in Integrative Medicine & Health Sciences at Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). A graduate of Brooklyn College (CUNY), he received a PhD in Physiology from the University in Cincinnati College of Medicine, and came to Georgetown 38 years ago, after 5 years at Mayo Clinic. In 2013, he was named the Founding Director of the Center for Innovation and Leadership in Education (CENTILE) at GUMC. His research interests for over 25 years addressed renal and electrolyte homeostasis, but in the past two decades he has focused on medical education and rethinking how health professionals are trained.
Dr. Haramati has taught physiology for over 40 years and been recognized with 11 Golden Apple awards from medical and graduate students at Georgetown. In addition, he was awarded the Arthur C. Guyton Teacher of the Year award by the American Physiological Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teaching Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the Master Scholar Award from the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE), and named Distinguished Educator by the GUMC Teaching Academy for Health Sciences. He chairs the Council of Faculty and Academic Societies of the AAMC and currently serves on the AAMC Board of Directors. Dr. Haramati has advocated that mindful practices together with small groups be integrated in the training of health professionals to foster resilience and improve well-being in the learning and work environments at academic health centers. He has been a visiting professor at over 100 medical schools worldwide.
