ABE Communications Development Committee

The overall goal of the Communications Development Committee (ACDC) is to regularly communicate ABE events, resources, opportunities, and content on the ABE website, social media platforms, and the ABE newsletter to further the ABE mission.

EDUCATION RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

The Education Resource Development Committee (ERDC) supports the development of biochemistry educational resources. The Education Resource Development Committee will strive to make resources publicly available and free of charge. The ERDC will schedule a seminar/workshop at each national ABE meeting.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee is chaired by the ABE Treasurer and oversees the yearly operating budget of the ABE.  The Finance Committee assesses the financial feasibility of proposals for ABE expenditures and advises the ABE Board on finances, particularly in preparation for the biennial meetings. The Finance Committee also includes the immediate past Treasurer, 1 regular member and the Executive Manager.

Advancing Belonging and Connecting (ABC) Committee

The overall goal of the Advancing Belonging and Connecting (ABC) Committee  (formerly JEDI) is to uphold our association’s commitment to be “intentional about and assume accountability for fostering advancing, belonging and connecting for all students, faculty, and staff.”  The purpose of the ABC Committee is to: 1) design and implement events that foster advancing belonging and connecting; 2) serve as a consultative body to the ABE Board and Standing Committees to ensure that all ABE-sponsored events meet the ABE’s vision of inclusive excellence; 3) explore opportunities to provide ABE members with professional development in ABE best practices; and 4) serve as a conduit to our ABE members to share and disseminate expertise in advancing belonging and connecting in educational best practices.  The chair will not serve more than two consecutive 2-year terms as chair.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is composed of a minimum of 4 members including the President-Elect who shall serve as chair. In addition, the Executive Manager will serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member. The mission of this committee will be to develop new outreach initiatives and increase membership, and to take action to do so, including vetting and confirming pending new members.

This committee oversees enrollment of new members, assists active membership through dues payments, maintenance of the membership roster and organizational demographics, and advises the ABE Board with regard to member enrollment, dues and demographics. The membership committee also works with the Communications Development Committee and Executive Manager to contact active ABE members regarding important information of upcoming events, conferences or activities, with the Finance Committee to coordinate dues into the working ABE budget, and with the Professional Development Committee to develop new member resources, and distribute them to active ABE members.

    Nomination Committee

The Nomination Committee is appointed by the ABE Board 90 days prior to the biennial meeting to oversee the nomination and election of new ABE Board members.  The Committee collects and disseminates candidate biographies, communicates the election process to the ABE membership, and conducts the election at the biennial meetings.

    Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee (PDC) supports the career development of biochemistry educators as curricular leaders, master teachers and assessors, effective mentors, and educational scholars. The PDC will identify experts, plan and organize seminars and/or workshops at the ABE biannual meeting, conduct/support webinars, or create other resources to support educator professional development.
